A new manufacturing complex is taking shape in Obazu-Mbieri, Mbaitoli LGA of Imo State, with Marvico Foods Limited already beginning operations ahead of its expected official commissioning in the coming weeks.

The facility, owned by Chief Nnamdi Iroegbu, popularly known as Udu, brings several production lines together within one integrated industrial complex.

During a tour of the facility, Imo State Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Investment, Chief Barr. Rex Anunobi, accompanied by Prince Eze Ugochukwu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, and Prof. Cona Asinu-Anosike, inspected the production lines, machinery and processing areas.

Unlike a factory built around a single product, Marvico has multiple production lines operating from the same location.

The facility includes sections for mattresses, pillows and foam, snacks and chips, vegetable oil, cassava and yam flour, bottled and sachet water, nutmeg and bayleaf, ice blocks, building blocks, dog food, kiddies diapers and flavouring.

The model allows different production activities to share infrastructure such as power, water treatment, storage, maintenance, logistics, quality control and administration while maintaining separate production workflows.

Equipment at the facility includes processing, drying, crushing, cutting, quilting, packaging and other specialised systems used across the different production lines.

Chief Iroegbu, who also operates factories in Lagos and Ogun states, said his decision to establish the facility in Imo was influenced by the investment environment under Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration.

He also disclosed discussions with Orashi Electricity Company Limited aimed at securing a more reliable electricity supply for the factory.

For Imo, the significance goes beyond another industrial building. A facility with several production lines can create demand for raw materials, support local suppliers, generate employment and keep more stages of production within the state.
