The management of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (NAU) has informed the university community of the decision banning with immediate effect, within the university premises and campuses, all forms of orchestration, celebration, or “signing-off” activities by final year students in connection with final examinations.
Information from NAU Public Relations Unit, said that the decision is predicated on recurring incidents of chaos, violence, vandalism, and disruption of academic and administrative activities associated with such events.
According to the Internal Memo signed by the University Registrar, Dr, Chinenye Gloria Okeke, Management is also concerned about the infiltration of unauthorized persons into the campus during these activities, which poses a serious threat to the safety and security of students, staff, and University property.
In fulfillment of its statutory obligation to maintain order, protect lives, and safeguard property, Management considers such activities unacceptable and a breach of University regulations.
Any form of violation to this directive attracts serious sanctions including rustication and withdrawal in line with the Students Handbook while culprits including external persons involved in this outlawed practice risk arrest and prosecution in line with extant laws and regulations.
Deans, Heads of Departments, Academic Advisers, SUG and all stakeholders are enjoined to ensure that these directives are implemented and complied with accordingly.
