The Imo State Police Command has apprehended one Chigaemezu Aguguom, an armed robbery suspect who is said to be an indigene of Umuneke in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest came a few days after the command intensified its offensive against violent crime, which has led to the arrest of other suspected armed robbers and the recovery of weapons and stolen items in Owerri.
DrumAfricanews reports that the operation was carried out by operatives of the Orji Division in collaboration with the anti-narcotics unit, following actionable intelligence.
The suspect was intercepted in the early hours of April 2, 2026, around the Bishop’s Court vicinity near Pacific Hotel, Owerri, reportedly bearing gunshot injuries sustained during a botched criminal operation.
Meanwhile, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is part of a five-man armed robbery syndicate that has been terrorising the area.
As gathered, during interrogation, he reportedly provided critical information that is currently assisting security operatives in tracking down other members of the group who are still at large.
Items recovered from the suspect include two locally made firearms loaded with five live cartridges, four mobile phones, a wristwatch, and other valuables believed to have been forcefully taken from victims.
Following the arrest, both the suspect and the recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Owerri for further investigation and necessary legal proceedings.
Reaffirming the command’s readiness to maintain law and order, the Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, assured residents of sustained security coverage, particularly during the Easter season.
He also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious activities through appropriate channels.
